What to include in a renovation website enquiry form

Plan a contractor enquiry form that collects enough project context without asking visitors to complete a full construction brief.
A renovation website enquiry form should start a useful conversation, not replace the entire estimating process. Ask for information your team will actually use to decide the next step. Every additional required field should have a reason. A shorter form is not always better, but an unexplained or irrelevant question is rarely helpful.
Separate essential information from later questions
For an initial enquiry, you generally need a way to contact the person and a short description of the project. A broad location can help establish whether the work is within your service area. Detailed measurements, drawings, and scheduling constraints can often wait until the first conversation. This article is a planning framework; it does not describe the default fields supplied with Briston.
Name: how the team should address the visitor.
Contact method: an email address or the contact detail your process needs.
Project type: a small set of relevant options, if you offer distinct services.
General location: only the level of detail needed to check coverage.
Project summary: an open field for the visitor’s own explanation.
Ask about timing and budget carefully
If timing affects whether you can accept the project, include a broad question with an “I’m not sure yet” option. If you ask about budget, explain why and avoid forcing someone to guess an exact figure. A range can start a conversation, but it is not a quotation or a commitment. Do not advertise a response time unless your team can consistently meet it.
Example helper text
“Tell us what you would like to change and the general location of the property. You do not need a complete project brief to get in touch.” Adapt this example to your own process. If drawings are required before you can assess a project, state that clearly instead.
Do not collect information you do not need
Avoid requesting sensitive documents or extensive personal information through a general contact form. Link to your privacy information and accurately explain how the enquiry will be handled. File uploads, CRM routing, conditional fields, and automated quotations are separate implementation choices; do not assume a template includes them.
Write the message after submission
The confirmation should say whether the message was sent and what happens next. Provide another contact route if appropriate. A generic animated success state is not enough if the submission never reaches your team. Test receipt at the actual destination, including a test from a mobile device.
Adapt the Briston contact section
Briston includes a lead-generation contact form in its one-page contractor layout. Check its current controls before adding your required questions. Keep labels readable, show errors clearly, and confirm that changes still work on mobile. The recommendations above are possible customisations, not a claim that every suggested field is preconfigured.
Review real enquiries after launch
Ask the person responding which details are repeatedly missing and which fields are never used. Adjust the form based on that evidence. Judge the result by relevant conversations and usable enquiries, not only by the number of submissions.
